Ethan Hunt Is Back in Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning

Hold onto your seats, – Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning is coming, and if the newly dropped trailer is any indication, we’re in for the most jaw-dropping, adrenaline-fueled ride yet. Tom Cruise returns as the legendary super spy Ethan Hunt, and it looks like he's about to remind the world why he's still the king of action.

Unveiled on Monday, November 11, the trailer for this eighth installment teases some of the most intense stunts we’ve seen from the franchise, which is saying a lot considering Mission: Impossible is basically the gold standard for edge-of-your-seat action. Cruise, once again, takes matters into his own hands – literally – performing death-defying stunts that most of us wouldn’t even dream of. From dangling off a biplane to underwater dives and all-out combat scenes, this trailer pulls no punches. It's a heart-racing preview of what's shaping up to be the grand finale of a franchise that has kept us on our toes for almost three decades.

But it’s not all about the new; there's a dash of nostalgia too. Fans will be excited to see clips from the original Mission: Impossible directed by Brian De Palma, and in a move sure to get hearts racing, Angela Bassett is back as CIA Director Erika Sloane, last seen in Mission: Impossible – Fallout. Her return adds a thrilling layer to what already looks like a spy game for the ages.

Tom Cruise, never one to be outdone, shared the film’s poster on his social media, captioning it with the chilling words: "Every choice has led to this." The poster, just like the trailer, suggests The Final Reckoning will push the limits of action cinema, combining high-octane suspense with a plot that’s just as gripping.

Directed by Mission: Impossible veteran Christopher McQuarrie (who helmed Rogue Nation, Fallout, and Dead Reckoning), the film is packed with A-list talent. Alongside Cruise, we’ll see Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, and many more. If you thought Dead Reckoning Part One was intense, just wait – this is the ultimate showdown.

Originally meant to be released as Dead Reckoning Part Two, the film faced delays thanks to the writers’ and actors’ strikes, but hey, good things come to those who wait. And now, with a new name and an official release date of May 23, 2025, we’ve got a lot to look forward to.

The trailer even gives us a little Easter egg: Tom Cruise’s wardrobe for The Final Reckoning matches the outfit he wore while performing his epic stunt at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games Closing Ceremony. Talk about continuity! Only Ethan Hunt – or rather, Tom Cruise – can blur the lines between fiction and reality in such jaw-dropping style.

Produced by Paramount Pictures and Skydance, with Cruise himself and McQuarrie pulling double duty as producers, Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning promises to be the perfect send-off for a saga that has redefined action movies. So, mark your calendars for May 23, 2025 – because Ethan Hunt’s final mission is one you won’t want to miss.

The reckoning is coming. Are you ready?
