Aurner by Aesop: A Defiant Bloom That Smells Like Rebellion
What if a flower didn’t just sit pretty in a vase but kicked it over instead? Meet Aurner, Aesop’s latest olfactory rebellion—a fragrance that doesn’t whisper sweet nothings but challenges everything you thought you knew about florals.
Crafted by Céline Barel, the nose behind Aesop’s crisp, contemporary Tacit, Aurner isn’t here to be polite. It’s a floral, yes, but not the delicate, lace-and-pearls kind. It’s more like florals with a leather jacket—edgy, bold, and a little bit unruly. Think fragile petals crashing against rugged woods, fresh notes spiked with warmth, and vegetal whispers wrapped in metallic sharpness. This is a scent built on contradictions, and it wears them like a badge of honor.
A Name That’s As Bold As Its Scent
Aurner isn’t just a cool name plucked out of thin air. It’s rooted in Old Norse, meaning “to be adorned, to be embellished with flowers.” But this isn’t about dainty floral crowns—it’s about being unapologetically adorned, like armor made of blossoms. Aurner doesn’t sit on your skin; it claims it, wraps around it, and dares you to be bold.
At its heart? A bouquet that flips the script. Magnolia Leaf—not the typical soft petals you’d expect—brings a herbaceous punch, layered with Roman Chamomile’s metallic edge and Cedar Heart’s earthy strength. It’s like walking into a garden where the flowers are plotting a revolution.
Smells Like: A Floral With a Backbone
The first spritz is a jolt—radiant citrus slices through the air, tangled with green spices like Cardamom and Pink Pepper. It’s fresh, yes, but there’s an undercurrent, a metallic glint that hints at the chaos beneath. As it settles, the floral heart rises—not soft, but striking. Magnolia Leaf’s brightness collides with Geranium, and just when you think it’s all coming together, Cardamom throws in a smoky wink.
And then, the base hits. Sandalwood, Cypriol Heart, and Cedar Heart ground Aurner with a woody depth that feels like roots digging into the earth. This isn’t a fleeting fragrance; it lingers, evolves, and refuses to be ignored.
Not Just a Fragrance—It’s an Attitude (and an Ear Cuff)
But Aurner doesn’t stop at scent. In a rare, rebellious twist, Aesop teamed up with Bangkok-based fine jewellery designer Patcharavipa Bodiratnangkura to create a limited-edition ear cuff—because why should your wrists have all the fun? This isn’t your average floral accessory. Handcrafted from Rhodium-plated 925 Sterling Silver, it’s as defiant as the fragrance itself—delicate in form but unyielding in spirit. Only 200 of these exist globally, making it the olfactory equivalent of finding a rare bloom in the wild.
Patcharavipa describes the design best: “I have always seen the magnolia as a symbol of power and purity. When one thinks about designs derived from florals, one might often think of something feminine or overtly sweet. I see florals differently. I see them as something very sculptural, very strong, and naturally perfect.”
